Four years after Jacoby was born, we were celebrating Christmas at our home at 36 Thomas Farm Circle in Shrewsbury, MA.
Jacoby was on our bed, and he couldn’t get up! Becky and Mike had just gotten married that year so Mike and I drove him over to Tufts Animal Hospital in Grafton, which was not too far from our house.
After running a bunch of tests, the good news was that Jacoby was just dehydrated. The bad news was that he had a bunch of different illnesses: Lyme Disease, Anaplasma, Hypertension, and one other disease. We believe that he had been bit by a tick at some point and the lyme disease affected his kidney function.
But the big one was glomerulonephritis (kidney disease). Jacoby’s kidneys weren’t working well, which led to his dehydration.
The vet kept him overnight in the hospital for two nights. Amazingly, Steve had gotten pet insurance and the whole thing was covered!
He came home two days later and was his normal self. The doctor gave him three different medications that he would need to take every day for the rest of his life: Amlodipine, Benazepril, and Clopidogrel.
Fortunately, these medications worked well for him and he had no further problems with his kidneys or dehydration for the rest of his life!
